Improving Air Quality In and Around Our Town and City High Streets

More than half of humanity live in cities – and the trend is rising. Towns and Cities are clearly the living space of the future. And yet our most important resource, the air we breathe, is in many places so polluted that breathing is harming our health.

SmartCityClimate has been developed to bring together innovative technologies and nature-based solutions to tackle the challenges we face on our High Streets.

Our goal at SmartCityClimate is to improve air quality in and around our High Streets not only to enhance the visitor experience but to improve the physical and mental health of the workers and residents.

This can only be achieved by combining innovative technologies along with Nature based Green planting solutions specifically designed to clean the air we breathe outdoors.

SmartCitySolar High Street Project

Reducing retailer Carbon Footprint while saving money on energy bills

SmartCity Climate have developed partnerships with leading environmentally friendly solution providers and are proud to be the first dedicated company that is attempting to change the look and feel of our towns and cities, utilising hybrid tech and nature-based solutions to remove pollution from our High Streets today, while reducing the pollution generated by our retailers tomorrow.

The SmartCitySolar High Street Project is perfectly designed to accompany our SmartCityTree urban greening solutions which remove Particulates. However, SmartCitySolar will also dramatically reduce the pollution created in the first instance.

SmartCityClimate are proud to Introduce the revolutionary CityTree

CITYTREES – Combine natural moss filters with smart IoT technology. The result is perceptible fresh & clean air.
As a shade giving, green oasis it creates a place of relaxation and interaction and enriches every urban space.

But let’s not stop there!

Our solutions include World leading air purifying technologies which are specifically designed to clean the air we breathe indoors, perfectly complementing the outdoor air we breathe. And with the Covid-19 pandemic we are now even more aware of how important our mission is!

At SmartCityClimate we bring together innovative technologies and nature-based solutions to tackle the challenges we face on our High Streets today. Our innovative solutions include world-leading air purifying technologies which are specifically designed to clean the air we breathe indoors, perfectly complementing the outdoor air we breathe. According to Public Health England poor air quality is the largest environmental risk to public health in the UK, as long-term exposure to air pollution can cause chronic conditions such as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases as well as lung cancer, leading to reduced life expectancy. Air pollution is the biggest environmental threat to health in the UK, with between 28,000 and 36,000 deaths a year attributed to long-term exposure. There is strong evidence that air pollution causes the development of coronary heart disease, stroke, respiratory disease and lung cancer, and exacerbates asthma. Professor Paul Cosford, Director of Health Protection and Medical Director at PHE, said:

“Now is our opportunity to create a clean air generation of children by implementing interventions in a coordinated way. By making new developments clean by design we can create a better environment for everyone, especially our children.”

Initial studies from research teams around the world indicate a clear link between fine dust pollution and higher mortality rates from Covid-19.

A Harvard study demonstrates that an increase in PM2.5 of just 1 μg/m³ is associated with an 8% increase in COVID-19 death rates. Poor air quality thus promotes lung and respiratory diseases in particular, in addition to cardiac arrhythmias and dementia.

Particulate Matter is just part of the problem, the phenomenon of Heat Islands is now fast becoming a factor in Global Warming. The problem here is, when the Sun heats up our High Streets and concrete buildings, our Towns and Cities don’t have enough time to cool down sufficiently, further increasing the problem of poor air quality.

If our Towns and Cities are to survive and thrive, we need to change the way we use them
